Fuel filter sedimenter

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Tilly, Jan 4, 2013.

  1. As I listened to the traffic report last night a camper van fire was causing problems on the M1 I think.
Tilly is fitted with a normal in line filter but I did move it from the engine bay a while back to just in front of the electric fuel pump. Near side chassis member but it is a bit awkward to get to and to be honest it seems a bit vulnerable there.
Has anyone fitted an online sedimenter filter with aluminium bowl, this type I would fit in the engine compartment, a lot more fireproof than the plastic in line type.
    Any assistance is valued.

    Cheers

And a Happy a New Year to one and all

  2. What you've got at the moment should be fine. Just make sure the filter is before the pump. You don't want fuel under pressure going through the filter.

Most van fires are caused by ancient fuel lines - what state are yours in?

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I've one after the pump, but it also doubles up as a pressure limiter for the ICT's which is why it's after the pump. I've got the standard one under the tank as well.

  4. When I purchased Tilly the filter was in the engine compartment after the pump, it is still after the pump attached to the chassis.
Fuel lines are good all renewed with proper clamps not jubilee clips that do not close down equally.
