Fuel Cutoff Solenoids

  1. Hello everyone,

So I've decided to get a fuel cutoff solenoid for peace of mind, and will wire it in with a hidden switch (for security) and ignition feed for auto-cutoff in an emergency, both in series.
I've seen the one on VWP (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/hoses/fuelpumps.php), but has anyone used the one from LPG-tech (http://lpg-tech.co.uk/product.php?id_product=20)? It's a lot cheaper, so maybe its worth paying the extra as its a safety device, but OMB look like a pretty big valve company - what are your thoughts?

  2. Sorry I dont understand the reason why you want to do this on top of the carb mounted version? If the power cuts, the fuel is locked off? If its an extra auto off then ok but if you are concerned about fire related damage - just ensure that your current fuel set up is as per factory standard , no frayed pipes and no leaks. Do not have an inline fuel filter in the engine bay and you should be fine. All those vans that go up are mainly due to poor maintenance or lazy mechanics! Petrol does not catch fire as easily as you may think - that is just in Hollywood!

  3. If its for Anti theft then dont bother - the sumbags merely jack up the back wheels and trailer it away!

  4. Stan - a cutoff valve prevents fuel flowing from the tank if the pipe to the carb in the engine compartment burns through. The tank's higher than the engine, so will continue to gravity feed fuel to any fire that happens to break out. Not good.

The valve on the carb just shuts off fuel to the idle circuit.

    Worth having IMHO.

  5. Thanks for the responses guys. You're right about theft Stan, they'll always find a way! I didn't know about the cutout on the carb, useful to know. It really is a topic of mixed opinions..
