Good evening. The fuel tank seal has perished on my 1973 t2. The rubber seal advertised on JK and elsewhere is a different size to mine. I need a flat rubber seal OD 55mm and ID 35 mm - this is smaller than the one that the websites suggest I should be buying. I cant easily source the correct size seal but I guess I can get round this in some way. Am I right in assuming the fuel cap and possibly the tank are not original based on this? Neville
Thank you all for the replies. I have shown pics of the seal showing where it has perished. Also shown it in situ in cap and the cap itself just to cover all the bases
Will have a look see what I have ,I’ve not got a cap like that but I’ll check size of seal on one I have got ? In morning .
Sorry not same locking one ,od 64 mm of chrome ,,seal size id32 od52 Have non locking same size as yours but different gasket material so may not be able to get off without breaking? Od chrome 72 I’d 65 Sorry that’s all I’ve got ,prob easier for you to go too small carparts accessory’s shop with yours and see if they have a near match .
Mine was 73 and jk one didn’t fit , I assume you have a flap on your panel with access to the cap via the flap , or do you have cap on outside of panel ?
There was three different caps fitted early/crossover/late. Yours looks like the crossover which should be the same size as the oil filler cap if it is a T1 engine.
i also have a crossover with fuel filler in its own little cubby hole. when i wanted a locking filler cap I went through so many wrong purchases before finding that an old Polo bread van was the only one that would fit (and lock)
