Trying for days to connect new heater cables to flaps under bus.
The flap lever goes up and down...the heater cable goes back and forth....how do I connect them using this connector?
    This way
    [IMG][IMG] or this way.
Any help advice diagram pic would stop me pulling my hair out.
    Please help.
    Thanks[IMG]

your pictures aren't all that clear but the 1st one is wrong, 2nd one looks correct to me, the cables aren't usually the correct length either so you may need to chop it and ignore the position of the thicker bit

    Thankyou.
I'm off back under the bus to have another go.
I think you're right the cables are too long....that's my problem.

Is it right....lever on dash down=on/flap open.

  5. Yes.

The flaps open but only a little bit not fully.

  8. Can you work them ok by hand? Have you got the right levers on the exchangers. Bus levers should stick up vertically above the exchaanger.

    Work fine by hand..easy.
They stick out at about 45 degrees...not vertical. If they were vertical it'd be easy....
That's what makes me think they've been bent

First question is do the flaps operate fully when you work the lever on the heatexchanger without the cable attached.

Assuming the heatexchangers are okay set the lever in the cab to the closed/cold position. Under the van slide the cable through the threaded clamp piece AFTER you have placed the threaded clamp piece in the correct position on the piece of metal that bolts to the end of the lever (the piece of metal that is bent and resembles a figure 8). Ensure the cable is tight and the lever on the heatexchanger is just about to open before you tighten the threaded clamp piece.
In this position when the lever in the van moves to the heat setting the lever on the heatexchanger will open the flap. It may not open the flap to its maximum but if you place the lever in the hot/on position and open the flaps to their maximum before you tighten the threaded clamp there is the possibility you will not be able to stop the heat coming into the cab which on a hot summers day is unpleasant..

The levers on the heatexchangers can be easily bent and should in my experience be nigh on straight.

    Thankyou.
    All works fine by hand.
I think the problem is the levers have been bent. They are not straight so the cable has, in effect nothing to pull.

Hopefully the cables will still be long enough now I've cut the bl...dy ends off!!!

  12. Assuming all the components operate then connect them with the front levers down (ie in the on position) then hold the flaps open when you connect the cable. This will ensure the flaps actually are open when switched on.

  13. btw first pic wrong, second pic correct (if you put the cable through the barrel nopple, third one...wont work either.

If the lever on the heat exchanger is bent/not vertical please do not try and straighten it as the metalwork inside is thinner than a baked bean tin and it snaps.
From experience its a git to weld. And theres an arrangement of a split pin and a scissors spring and two metal discs that is easy to pull apart and nearly impossible to reassemble.
There are two weld blobs and a lot of folded over tabs to get inside the cover.
Dont angle grind it all apart, find the blobs and just cut them. The metal is too thin to MIG weld back..

    Thanks for the advice.
I did try gently to bend it but realised I would need too much force and it'd probably break, so I stopped and will tweek it as much as poss to get the best functionâ˜ș
