WANTED Front shift rod - Hereford/Worcs/Glocs *URGENT*!!

  1. OK so in a moment of sheer stupidity I managed to forget to remove the front shift rod before setting about dropping the front beam (had it all disconnected, just plain forget to remove it....muppet), end result is a mildly bent shift rod.

I'm trying to get the van back together for an MOT on Thursday so need a replacement urgently.

    Can anyone help???

Can't you mildly bend it back? :)

  3. Yeah, what Zed says I did the same a while back  Mine was quite bent. I bent it back and it was fine, its just getting the shape right. It would be easier if you could borrow one to bend it to

  4. It might be a case of that.... I did wonder why a 10lb sledge wasn't shifting the beam as quickly as I expected, doh!

People bend them deliberately to avoid fouling lowering adjusters. If the ends are at the right angle all's good unless you twist it or tie it in a knot. They're pretty forgiving. Gear selection woes are generally the sideways type, not for and aft. :)

  6. Dont worry about it mine was hanging on the clutch cable as i was jumping on it

  7. I've removed loads, but I still wonder why I can't get the engine to pull back, and then notice that the accelerator cable is still attached.;)

  9. Thats not as bad as fitting the engine without feeding the accelerator cable through:oops:

Everyone's done that at least once... :D
Not so bad, just pull it back until nearly off the studs and reach round.

  11. ...or bolt everything back in including replacing the air hoses, heater cables and even the air filter and then realise you've trapped the cable inside the clutch housing :-(

That was an important lesson learnt! Always the first thing I check now before cracking on bolting stuff in! I've done 'a few' engine changes since then (!) and never done THAT again!

  12. All sorted - once I realised the rod actually did have a kink of sorts in it in the first place, I thought better of trying to 'straighten' it out so gave FBi a call in Swansea - a 2nd hand rod is on its way to me as I type this. That's the last time I will forget to do that!!

Thanks for the moral support guys, glad I am not the only one who makes a mistake .........

I have to say the worst job I have found on our bus so far is re-installing the poxy accelerator cable, as noted above!!
