Front door check straps

  1. Hi all,
I'm very new to this having bought my first bay yesterday!
At some point it has had different doors fitted and I noticed the check straps have not been connected up, there is of course a reason for this, they won't fit the bracket on the bus, it seems I need the slim type but they're £50 each, anyway, will they fit my doors with the fatter ones on?

    Thank you

  2. Not unknown. Are your straps vertical with a barrel bit on the end (early) or flat and horizontal (late)?

  3. The straps are the vertical ones with the barrel but the bracket on the bodywork is for the flat ones

  4. Right. The good news is that you can file/grind the barrels down evenly to about 9mm from memory. They'll then fit nicely into the flat brackets. Had to do one on my bus. Works fine.

  5. Brilliant! the passenger door doesn't have a check strap, will either type fit?

  6. There's a difference in the mounting hole centres, so no. Later centres are closer than earlies. Ideally, you'll need to measure the centres in the door and get the right one.

  7. Thank you:thumbsup:
