Front Chassis Repair

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Winnie, Jul 26, 2012.

  1. Hi guys,

I am new to the site and need some urgent advice. My bus is almost finished but while fitting a new lowered front beam I have come across some rot on the main front chassis rails. I have tried to post some pictures but not sure how to do this. Anyone got any good ideas on how to repair the front chassis around the y shaped part from where the beam bolts on. Winnie

  2. Really need pics to see how bad it is but you need to cut out the rot and have new metal welded in , or buy a section cut of a rot free bus if you can find one

    welcome to the forum!

I'd suggest having a good look round the restoration section on here, more than likely someone will be doing a repair like your & will have documented it.

  4. You'll probably have to drop the beam to do it properly because if you can see rust near it, it'll almost certainly extend behind the plates slightly. It's worth checking the chassis legs from the beam to the front also as these are often covered in schutz or thick underseal which hides rot very well for a while;)
