Front beam

  1. Hi guys, front Beam on my bay has some sort of adjuster that moves around the top axle (welded in) in the middle but, no adjuster on the bottom axle has anybody seen anything like this, I thought that to be adjustable the beam needed adjusters on both top and bottom, is this correct?

Any help would be gratefully recieved, thanks

  2. Sounds like a folksy adjuster

  3. Whoever modified the beam probably only intended a mild drop - say 60 - 65mm. Lots of folks recon you only need one adjuster to do this, although it does place more weight on the lower set of torsion leaves. The plus side is that you don't have to cut off the steering pin assembly to weld in the lower adjuster, and then weld the steering pin assembly back on - you maintain the orginal alignment.

  4. As sailor says, it is quite common practice to moderately lower a beam by fitting an adjuster to a single set of torsion leaves. It would be better practice to adjust less on each set but having said that I've never seen a problem caused by the former method.

  5. Thanks guys, further invest does confirm it as a folksy adjuster so thanks for the pointer, I am just a little worried that it is leaking something and if so what can be done about it.

  6. The only thing it could leak is grease dude

I thought it would be a folksy adjuster as i was puzzled the first time i saw one

  7. Mine only had one it buy I think they gave up as the other just got welded up and there was only a bottom one but no signs of the steering box bit being cut off

  8. Hi guys and gals

My first post so go easy.
Ive owned my van for 6 years now. Got her on the road last year after an underneath restoration. especially with the front beam. While i fitted a rust free Aus import I fitted beam adjusters. When rebuilding all the front everything went back together fine however the shift rod for the gear change fouled slightly on the bottom of one of the adjusters studs. I promptly got round this by bending ever so slightly the shift rod to just clear the adjusting stud. So all is now well except that I stuggle to find first gear now. Anyone else had an issue like this? If so how do I remedy the dilema?

    Many Thanks
    Roy
