Front Anti Roll Bar and dropped spindles

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by slimesub5, Jun 4, 2020.

  1. Hi, had a search for the above but can’t seem to find anything.

Can I fit a standard (or HD) front anti roll bar with dropped spindles?

    Thanks,

  2. Yes, the drop spindles only move the hub location up apart from the the test is as it was.

Yes. Do you have bump stop "horns" on your beam? If it had been lowered previously with adjusters they'd be cut off and the ARB removed.

  5. I flipped mine onto the top to give more clearance easy to do so it sits on top of the arms was like that for years

  6. Doesn't this adversely affect the ride?

  7. It's does exactly the same all it does connect both arm together still bolts the same just sits on top rather than hangs down , used to hit it off the road when I was low

That's not necessary with dropped spindles only though.

That was my point really, with dropped spindles the ARB is not lower than the beam so moving it serves no purpose.

  11. I need to get under my bus and have a good look how it all works. It's still a black hole for me, coming from cars with a 'normal' setup.

  12. My bump stops have been removed, I guess when PO had the dropped spindles fitted. These isn't a centre adjuster and doesn't look cut and turned.

Now, do I go for a standard ARB or the HD???

Strange. Absolutely no reason to remove the bump stops for dropped spindles as the wheel will hit the tub long before the bumpstops come into play.

Is your bus very low? It could have been lowered in a similar way to adjusters, but permanently and then dropped spindles added as well. In that case you could in fact find your ARB was removed to stop it catching. Some photos might clear it up or you could just go for it and be prepared to mount it on the top as @1973daisey suggested.

I have twist and cut lowering and ended up with a snapped flipped ARB which I removed because it hooked stuff regularly.. spilled set concrete on bumpy Irish bog roads, camber on single track roads, speed bumps...

But made up for that with coilovers on the shocks which stiffen the suspension additionally against rolling.
