Putting together a wish list for my interior refit and would like to add a fridge/cooler. Looking for 12v/240v only, not Gas, not keen on cutting holes in the side to be honest, doesn't need to be too big, there only the two of us. So who has a decent 2 way fridge, what make etc, how quiet is it when running. Also whats the difference between compression and absorption?
I aborted the idea of installing a fridge and decided to buy a 40ltr cool box from Halfords, so I could put it in the awning and free up space in the van
Most seem to open from the top, so I was half thinking of getting one, leaving a space on the side unit to sit it with a fold up top above, Then just I can just remove it when we're not going anywhere - an awning is was down on the wish list at the moment, but could do the same eventually.
are you trying to fit the fridge into an existing unit ? i'm thinking of replacing the devon coolbox with a fridge but cannot find anything suitable @matty did this which explains things http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/fridge-types.11369/
The difference between compression and absorption is approximately half a day of leisure battery or more than a weekend, not to mention a hundred quid or so.
I have a vitrifigo fridge that runs on 240v ac, 24v or 12 volt dc and can highly recommend it. Can't remember the exact model number. It's one of those that has a seperate compressor. It has worked well on the leisure battery on a 6 night camp, with a solar panel topping up the battery during the day. Even has a small ice cube shelf.
No I'm replacing the units, my interior is old and tired. My current bed gets made from the table resting between rear seat and a fold down part from the buddy seat, due to a few broken bits I also need to use the Bottle Jack for support, its wonky at best. Then you assemble cushions jigsaw fashion, doing all this at night, while trying to be quiet on a campsite, after a few light ales can be challenging and annoying.
