Freeway Flyer gearbox conversion for a Viking?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Nicolasticity, Nov 10, 2020.

  1. Does the gearbox ratio work with a heavy but 70hp T4 powered van? Is it worth doing or will I wear out the engine or something else?

  2. Which type 4 and what box do you have currently and are they serviceable?

Why? it can do 79mph with its stock gearbox, at which point it runs out of power.

If its too noisy at that speed, spend the money on sound insulation.

  5. Engine is OK, gearbox had a getting into third issue (syncro?) but not only did I have 90% rust I had slack everything which would explain the shift issue.. Think Ill get a local gearbox guy just to have a look check selector and syncros and leave it there... thanks for the advice.

  7. What engine you got. Why i was asking was on type 4 s then the engine and box pairings were pretty darn good from the factory. For info I’m running a type 4 2 litre with matching box. Viking roof. Only mod really is I’m runn8ng dellorto carbs. It’s good for motorway speeds when fully loaded
