Hi, Just gone out and got myself a little tv / dvd / freeview combo unit for keeping the daughter happy on the long journeys in the van and wondered how good the aerials are whilst roaming the roads and on site. The one that came with it is about 6inch tall with a magnetic base, (I assume pretty standard looking at the other units I saw), is it really necessary to upgrade it or as long as there is a freeview signal in the area it picks it up. Anyone?
i have a dongle that converts my lappy to freeview with a tiny 6 inch aerial some sites you get all channels brilliantly some a few, depends on location i guess, i was sceptical on the aerial size and thought it would never work but fair play it does, can't comment on driving though as i use parked only although i don't put the aerial outside just inside on the roof frame and it's ok.

I was at the same place as Ricky with a standard ariel ,it was like a car radio one where as rickys looked a little more high tech. I couldnt get anything whilst ricky got freeview. Whilst in Whitby I found a junk shop and got an indoor ariel for £2 and this works fine
do you need a TV license? - i looked it up ... no you dont as long as you have one at home - thats handy
i find camping in Cornwall it depends if the camp site is at the top of the hill or the bottom for how many channels you get we find we use the portable DVD player or the net book with films etc stored on it more than the TV it's only me watching the F1 that really uses the tv
