I get you, but that would rely on a full width bench seat no? Mine is a 2 seat bench with separate drivers seat, so I need to make up something that will work with that format, plus the units butt up to the bulkhead behind the drivers seat which would prevent a full width bench from dropping back into the rear area to make a bed.....which is something else i'm aiming to achieve with this. Good idea though, and with a westy type of set up it would probably be a runner
did you want to re-utilise the standard passenger (dual) seat as that will certainly reduce your options.
well i'm thinking if I can prove the concept on a two seat bench (coz that's what I need for my bus) it should be straightforward enough to transfer it to a full width bench......fixings only fit to the sides of the base and back and aside from the width the dimensions will be more or less the same I imagine?
A friend from our "club" (who hopefully won't mind me sharing this) did something like this. though he's since changed that to a classic swivel seat, also home-made.
That's pretty neat I'd like the back to drop down and hang on stays......I know it wouldn't make a full size bed but it would be ideal for my 2 year old, and i'd be happier with her sleeping on that than on the bunk across the front seats she currently uses.....less far to fall if she rolls out of it lol
Looks good but not sure what that achieves! He obviously had a purpose in mind and its well expedited.
I really like the flip front bench. It allows tardis like accommodation for 4/5 to sit comfy in a bus. And that idea Sven posted up works for me too.
Clever, but no extra room in the back even if the back flipped over and as a bed it looks rather uncomfortable... I can see why the owner moved on to plan B.
I reckon a futon type base....by that i mean don't have rails or sliders, or fancy hinged mechanisms....have crossmembers on the base frame located in hooks, or quick release catches (front and rear), with the backrest mounted in a similar fashion to the above pic. Pull the seat base up, relocate the rear crossmember in the front hooks (to achieve the correct angle of tilt), the backrest then simply folds down and rests on the sawn off bulkhead bases...simples
