  1. Hi all , jumped in the van earlier turned key nothing ! Checked battery and only 6 volts ! Checked leisure bat only 6 volts !! Changed battery and all good . The garage I bought The battery from said to me if the leisure battery is naff it will affect the starter battery !? I thought the split charger system stopped that ? Any ideas ?

If your alternator is not working well or the wiring is dodgy then both batteries will go flat.

The crude split charge relay simply connects both batteries together when the alternator light is off and the ignition is on.
If either battery has shorted cells, the other battery can only charge to the voltage allowed by the failed battery - so three shorted cells in either battery would make sure that the most you can charge a battery to is 6 volts.

More sophisticated diode splitters will charge the flattest battery first. Even with a diode splitter the other battery will run down to match it if there is a problem.

  3. Feeling your pain :(
Might be a trip to halfrauds tomorrow to chance my luck with an exchange under warranty!!

  4. I see , my Lesuire battery ran flat last year and I don't think it has ever fully recovered !! So my starter battery basically only charges to whatever life is in the Lesuire 6vots !!
