Fitting seat belts

  1. My new seat belts have finally arrived and now tim to fit them, front and rear.

I'll need to drill holes into the rear arches as these have been welded with patches at some point in its life. i know that i'll need the backing plates for these but how many more will i need? do i need them for every belt?

  2. You'll need one hole drilled in each rear arch (with a reinforcing backing plate underneath).
If your van came from the factory with windows the rest of the mounts will be already there.
If not then you'll need to drill holes and fit a backing plate to each.

Heres a piccy of the mounting points. Theres 4 in the white middle panel between the arches (2 have black blanking plugs in them in this piccy and the others are right next to them).

The fuel tank is behind that panel though so if you don't already have the mounts factory fitted you'll have a few more problems as you can't drill the holes and fit the reinforcing plates unless you take out the engine and fuel tank. :(

If need be you could always drill the holes into the sloping panel closer to the floor (the grey panel in the piccy) as then the holes will be under the floor above the gearbox and you can gain access to fit the reinforcing plates. You may need longer belts (or the add-on extension belts JK sell).

  3. thank you!
I do have all the other fixing points, just not the wheel arch ones. so i'll only need plates for those two?

wasn't sure if i needed them for all even where there is a fixing. Want to get it right.

  4. You'll just need the ones for the arches if you've already got the rest.
