Fitting Saab seats

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by westie, Nov 19, 2011.

  1. Evening all - Today I removed my old tired fronts out of our camper to make way for Saab 95 leather seats.

I noticed that the passenger side does not have any runners where the seat sits so will just bolt the Saab seat and job done. However the drivers seat side has runners for the original seats. I assume these need to be removed or can I bolt the Saab seat through the runners?

Any advice asap would be great as I would like to finish the job tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Sam

I'd bolt them in over the original runners, you should still be able to get the seat level, gives you the option at a later date to change back if need be.

Have your Saab seats got the runners fitted to them?
Ours sat a bit high (and a lot of people say Saab seats sit high anyway), we removed the old seat runners and welded some flat strips to support the saab runners..we then bolted through the strips (three bolts per runner).

There are a few photos on the Gusbus resto

  4. Hi, I think I'm goiung through the same process myself. I had assumed that the Saab seats, with runners, would be far too high so I'm thinking of removing the runners - which should drop them down by about 60mm. This will make them non-adjustable but that shouldn't be a problem. I'm taking out 911 seats (too narrow !) and they were fixed rigidly.

I'm trying to take the plastic trim off but the first hurdle seems to be getting the back adjuster knob off. Any suggestions ?

    Cheers.

  5. Er, it kust pulled off :-[

  6. As far as I'm aware, Saab 9-5 seats don't fit. Only the older 9000 and 900 fit.

  7. I'll let you know (with pictures if I can remember how to attach them again). I'm currently removing/grinding off as much of the runners and adjustment as I can to get them as low as possible, before I work out what's needed to bolt them in. I think (ha ha !) they should only end up about 20mm above the height of the 911 seats at the front, which should be OK. I suffer from a common problem though - I'm 6ft, the co-driver is 5ft. 1 1/2.

  8. you can flatten down the original runners and bolt them through.

Or carefully cut them out like I did.
