fitting my filter king to the fire wall

  1. Does anyone know off hand what the gap is between the firewall and the fuel tank on my late bay. I am going to mount the filterking onto the firewall on the LH side but obviously dont want to drilll into the fuel tank.

Am thinking of using TEK screws to mount it to the firewall.

  2. Just drill carefully and stop as soon as you're through. Short self tappers should do.

  3. plenty of gap then? For some stupid reason i didnt take a note of the gap during my restoration. Every day is a school day!

  4. The tank doesn't fill the whole cavity - room left & right, as I recall. And it doesn't butt up against the panel.

I'd say you've got a cm at least.

  5. I drilled a very tiny hole (0.5mm) in the FW as you don't need much pressure on a small drill. Then poked a wire through to measure the gap. Mine was about a good old fashioned inch. 25.4mm for you modern types - do we have any on here?
So previous posters were spot on. Just use short self tappers.

  7. Oooops :(

  8. Ouch! I will now be VERY careful. Its an engine out job to get to the tank. The most rediculous design error on a type 1 late bay.

  10. Well its all fitted and what a difference. Much smoother running. No fuel smell any more. A win win situation. Very recommended.

I went for a 67mm glass bowl filter king. It was pre set to 3 psi so didnt have to adjust it.

i will post some pics later.
