Fitting an original-type air filter

  1. Since I've owned my van, it has always had the pancake air filter on. I've seen an original air filter for sale and wondered how they actually fit. Obviously one pipe is attached to the top of the carb, but is there a bracket or thereabouts which I need to consider, too.
My bay is a 72 Westy, 1600 engine with 34 pict 3 Empi carb on

    Cheers.

  2. You should have a bracket/stand sticking out of the right hand side of the engine compartment, near the battery. It'll be round if your filter was an oil-bath type or an oblong arm if the later paper filter type.

You need to get the right one. Original much better than the pancake jobs.

  3. Thanks Snotty. Pretty sure nothing is there... Hmmm!

  4. May be that if the engine was fitted with twin carbs in the past, someone's sawed it off :(
