I was asked by tim who hires bay campers in dulwich if i would fit a replacement plastic pop top to his weathered and worn out one so having done a few westy canvas repairs and replacements for vw kampers in small dole sussex as i worked there last year, I found taking the whole roof off much better than what others told me doing it on the van ? 1st you need to measure the canvas to when its tight it dose not rip nice big holes in your £250+ canvas , the plastic pop tops are more giving as they don't have to be as tight as the fabric canvas roofs , get two pallet tables and once you have measured it all take the roof off with a few hands to be on the safe side and place it upside down and attach the canvas starting at the top/front making sure its clear of any old staples as well , then carefully start at the attaching it front middle then the four corners then the back so you dont have too much slack then the long side making sure its tight all around as you dont get a 2nd chance as the staples weaken the fabric so mesure and then mesure again to be 100% its right take your time and it will be perfect make sure its equel on all four sides before doing the long bits down the side , same for the bottom part of the roof once its back on the van put the roof right up to where you req its pull it tight and mark with a pen where it will need to be attached tight , then pull the roof down half way and staple the bottom working around from the front pulling it tight , tricky stuff but after you have done a few without any horros or rips your have a great looking roof in you bus without the expense of a workshop fee
