Finishing welded panel

  1. Hello all

just has the OS rear corner welded and its not quite watertight, still some blow holes left in the seam can anyone recommend a product for filling these holes?

same corner i need info on how to spray the new sheet through the air-intakes and what the best spray to use should i use a primer or what?

also in order to do the welding the rear window had to be removed and unfortunately i have discovered that the sills are rusted on the top and bottom, now im going to sideline fixing this until i saved up some more money but in the mean time i need to seal the window back in to prevent any more water ingress can anyone suggest a product to use? will a normal bathroom sealant do the job?

    thanks in advance

  2. if the holes are along a butt joint where you welded then the best thing is to build them back up with weld to fill them.......any thing else and it could show after paint or worse start rusting through

if its only a couple of small pin holes between the rear corner and the factory seam where it butts against the rear side panel then seam sealer should do the trick and remain flexible so it wont crack after paint. :)

.........but pics would be good so we can see exactly what you mean :)

careful of just using primer for any painting as most are porus so any mosture that touches it will soak in and the metal underneath will rust pretty rapidly.........primer is basically an undercoat to use before applying a top coat of body colour paint.

with regarding what order to do welding, do you mean - should you weld the window opening or sills first? basically up to you what order if that is what your asking  (sorry if I havnt understood the question though ;D)

be careful using bathroom sealer as it contains silicone, if your thinking of painting anywhere in that area in the future the paint will react badly as silicone can be difficult to remove all traces of......might be better to use seam sealer

  3. Agree with above mate use seam sealer. I use a non porous red oxide spray on my repairs until ive got time to prime n paint

Sikaflex 512 is one of the best products for
these jobs, google it, eBay , amazon etc!

  5. Hi Guys,

thanks for the tips the link below shows photos of the panel i had welded in on OS corner

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xd4t483hwdfgzfl/2d-l9VqeX8

you can see the tiny blow holes along the seam i wont be painting in this to a show finish as am planning on headlining the interior i just need to make it water resistant from the airintakes

the link below shows that where the window has been removed it has uncovered some more rust and it is this job that i am going to sideline for the time being but in the meantime i want to try and prevent any further water ingress around the window. can i get seam sealer in various colours either black or white hopefully

hope this clears up any confusion and thanks for the advice so far (karma coming your way :) )
