Finishing skills needed...

  1. Hoping someone can guide me here.

How on earth do I finish the inside of this window to look good?

I've racked my brains for ages and can't think of an acceptable / do able solution.

What does the inside of other conversions look like?

  2. What do you mean to seal the frame against the fittings?

  3. You could get wide boot seal with clip on edge over the edge of the material and the seal on the ally maybe? I am in the same boat as you but my air gap is not as big as that? The other option is to make a wooden sill that you can screw on with self tappers and cups. What is the material inside? Carpet? what do you have behind?

  4. The panel is ply with thin grey carpet spray glued to it.

I was looking to create something that would close the gap and give a window surround to finish it off.

Perhaps a piece of aluminium cut the same shape and size of the window but with an extra inch to overlap the panel lining. I really don't know. I need a idea seed to plant in my head lol!

Aluminium angle is a good idea, you need to square off the corners on the panel and create a sort of aluminium picture frame. You could get some wood behind the panel to stiffen it and give you something to fix to.

  6. Next time you are on the tube or tram look at the windows, they have that kind of wide rubber seal. Trouble is where to get it? You could be posh and make a fibreglass moulded frame that fits to your gap? Maybe glue carpet or vinyl over it to match?

If you want some odd rubber trims try Woolies @ Market Deeping, they have some random stuff that may help you.

  8. I use Woolies a lot they are good

Someone on Earlybay supplies inner rubber seals for westy louvre windows - looks very similar and might fit?

  11. Just to throw something different in there, if you've covered the panel yourself then you could redo it with a larger piece of material and tuck it in behind the window seal fella? Am I way off course on what you're talking about?? :s

  12. Your bang on fella. I may have to remove some of the units to re do it. Might be easier to make the window hole smaller. Was hoping for a quick fit but the gap around is very uneven so it's gonna make it difficult. Rubber seal may do the job.

  13. Mmmmnnn, I'd check the boarding around the window contour then back the remaining material with thin foam so the edging wasn't harsh against the boarding. Then once tucked behind the seal it'll look like it was meant to be! :)
