Hi folks, just wondered if anybody has any recommendations for buying finishers like trim and edging, just starting to do interior refit and could do with knowing what's out there to finish the edges off on the interior, both plastic trim and aluminium! Also can I ask where I would get a couple of the copper washers that fit onto the wing mirrors to stop it scratching the paint or is something different used know? Thanks in advance Andy
What is this finishing you speak of? These things are never finished, if they were we'd have to spend time with the wife and do chores!
there are loads of different ways to trim and edge your furniture. It depends on how you intend to build the units. Many companies like Reimo, Autosleeper, Bilbo etc. use ply panels and rout the doors, hatches etc. from the panel, then use the 'off-cut'. This works out cheaper and quicker than making up a traditional carcass and fitting 'fronts'. Also, the type of trim used will depend on what it's meant to do....if it's to stop the edge getting damaged then a 'knock in' pvc edging is often used. If it's purely cosmetic and unlikely to receive any abuse or accidental contact, then iron on edging will do the job. most of the capping and edging available is standard width 3, 9, 12, 15, 18 mm to suit the furniture boards most commonly used. I suggest you download CAK Tanks catalogue and REIMO's as between them, these represent much of what is generally available...for Aluminium, google aluminium extrusions or profiles.....Magnum Motorhome have a good selection of lightweight furniture board, cheaper than Vohringer....
Mine ground the paint down when I refitted the mirrors after paint but as I've not moved them since it's been fine.
I'd made thin rubber gaskets to fit under the locking nut on my mirrors but the thread length on the repro mirrors is so short I couldn't actually use them.
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...air-211857543_act_shop.product_pID_194233.htm They are fibre washers and are very important to stop the dreaded rust, when fitting and adjusting the mirror you will scratch / chip the paint and allow it to start, wher as the fibre washers protect the body.
I used Reimo edging/skirting stuff but it was handy to get hold of, I only live 10 minutes down the road from their outlet store in Egelsbach I recommend it though, good quality stuff I also found some things in the local hardware store, L-profile strips of metal and so forth, that were handy for covering the corner edges of the furniture where I had got a bit over enthusiastic with the power tools
Ha not really, thats about the only thing that is convenient. It is true Germans are motorhome mad, but prefer their big modern fibreglass boxes. Virtually everything VW aircooled related is more available and better value in the UK
True, but the quality of some of the readily available conversion parts is pretty crap.,,,or other companies import from Reimo and jack the prices up.
