Exhaust rattle

I have a JK stainless quiet pack the same as the link below.

It’s developed a rattle like somethings rattling in there, I’ve given it a good shake but nothing comes out so I was thinking of cutting it open to find the issue then try and weld it up.

Any one opened one up?

Might you do more damage trying to source the annoyance ...i would just leave it, prehaps a bit of baffle come loose .
Probably blow it out soon .

Could be worth taking off the back box and shaking it to see what rattles. It might be loose in the pipework rather than in the silencer box, or be the strap holding the silencer up at the exhaust end.

Worth checking it isnt a screw or a carburettor part that the engine ate and spat out, or just some exhaust sealant paste that has broken loose..

Mine cracked all round the inlet to the silencer box but its all my own fault for hitting stuff with it. The whole box could move about 5mm relative to the tube ..

 

So now what?
It's junk as is? Nothing to loose?

 

I've got one of these, that developed a rattle..... and thought the same thing. It really sounded like there was somethung in it.

.... Turned out it was the retaining strap /bracket had worked slightly loose.

 

I’ve had it 3 years and it was 2nd hand when I got it.

might just leave it but it’s so annoying at tick over.

 

Did it the silencer box rattle when you shook the silencer ?


I think mine is about 8 years old and about 60000 miles.
I dont think they should fall apart.

I expect looking at it that you would ideally grind off the edge where the outer sleeve is folded back onto the end cap of the silencer box at both ends to get inside.

Then with stainless steel wire and argoshield lite or similar mix, it can be mig welded.

 

Well the rattle got to me so I've taking it off it feels like the whole baffle inside is lose as you move it side to side it clunks so it looks like a new one or cut it open.

 

Or both.
Go on, you know you want to.
