Exhaust popping.. deep

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Deefer66, Aug 8, 2022.

  1. Will a small hole in the echaust cause this? Just below the connection flange... just wamted to write flange there ...rarely get a chance

After chasing round valve gaps / timing / spark plugs/ leads/ carbs all with slight improvements left with a small low pop as it idles..

    2ltr stock ...

    Pops on overrun too?

  5. Yes.. only tried whilst stationary so far though.. its been a journey to get her running smoothish and idling.

Spark plug was loose/a bit burnt, dash pot was out a little, coil a bit weak, autochoke bimetalic sping stuck to little plastic bit on throttle cam and jamming... and a small hole in the exhaust....

Should be good for a few years with just an occaisional oil change again now.. well after the new exhaust goes on..

You done your air/fuel mix right? Sounds like fuel igniting in the exhaust.

  7. Prob pretty close on a solex with the initial set up as per most write ups 2.5 turns on screws etc and butterfly gaps set on full and no chokes only needed small tweaks last time to be sweet from there.

But i can feel the pulses under the exhaust from a hole so know that needs doing just making sure the symptoms fit that known fault before i mess anythong else up.. and start a circle again.

Sticking to one possible fix at a time again now...

Could be a gap in the heat risers.
    Prone area,I think.
