alright buys, after unbolting my cylinder heads, i was gently teasing them off and this hit the ground.. any ideas?
It's the little air dam that clips between the cylinder head fins, in t'middle. Rarely seen these days...
PS Yours came off the head that was on....hang on, the crystal's clearing...the cylinder 3 & 4 side. Do I get a prize?
nope, got the thermostat too :s. oh, should i buy/make a new one? this one is whaffer thin from corrosion. im guessing as it came off the 1/2 side.. it probably wasnt where it was supposed to be, maybe just wedged in somewhere. and there isnt one on the 3/4 side... weird.
If you can find some, worth having IMHO. They're whaffer thin anyway. As fittings, they seem to have come and gone over the years. They clip into the head fins (underside) in roughly the position where the thermo rod goes through. They just stop cooling air blasting straight down and out over the heads - smaller versions of the dams that are clipped between the cylinders.
PS Zwerks in Canada do repros...and repro Hoover bits as well. Recommended. http://members.shaw.ca/zwerks/zwerks.ca/Products.html
Demois aircooled do them in the UK http://www.deimosaircooled.com/products/engine/cooling/cylinder-head-deflector-tins/de-101-001
Here's a bit on the beasts from the late Bob Hoover's blog (he of the famous Hoover Bit). http://bobhooversblog.blogspot.co.uk/2006_12_16_archive.html?m=0 His blog entries were always worth a read. Sadly missed...
