    I am half dutch and when the Germans invaded they thought my granddad looked a bit Jewish, apparently they went round with a nose gauge and it you had a big nose they looked into your family tree looking for Jewish blood.

    he went into hiding and spent the war fighting with the resistance.

  6. Second most popular Irish surname, originally meaning 'strife' - thanks :rolleyes: mum's maiden name apparently has literary connections going back to the 12th c, won't be mentioning that to any of them, they're already too big for their boots

    Our name comes from Romania, spelled slightly different Khelu (opposed to Chelu). My ancestors relocated to France for around a hundred years before coming to England.

    pmsl it means Bald Person :eek: although the chammaro dictionary the name means brother/friend

    I was born at Berwick on Tweed lovely old town . I think if i read write 70% of the people in berwick want it back in scottish hands as was originally .
