Ethanol in fuel & floats

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Low n slow, Jul 8, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

To cut a long story short, would the ethanol in modern fuel affect the float in a standard carb? i.e: make it mabey swell and stick?
Had no fuel getting through to the carb after filling up. No tools, thanks AA who took off the fuel pipe to the carb from the pump and when cranked, lo & behold, fuel flowed. Put back together & off we go.
Only thing he and I could think was a stuck float. How embarrasing.

    Ethanol to blame?

  2. I wouldn't think so. An ageing float, gummy petrol residues etc more likely.
