    Dammit!
Two days in a row I've come home to an indoor room temperature reading of 11.5c,
    and no hot water.
    Bah!
If it does it again, I'll have to call British Gas on it, and then where will we be.
Someone, namely my not especially old boiler, is going to get a severe ticking off.

  4. If it’s a condensing boiler then make sure the condensate pipe isn’t frozen.

failing that it’s probably the flame detection probe.

It is indeed a condensing boiler.
    Pipe could well be frozen.
It fires up and goes nuts if I press Reset, but then apparently it all goes pear shaped again later.
On a positive note, at least my gas bill is looking affordable at the moment, the smart meter has retired and put it's feet up.
Worcester online fault info says my ignition isn't igniting.
I can light the fire and make do without heating.... but no hot water is miserable. I want a bath!!

Boil some water in a saucepan and fill the bath (repeat several times) and enjoy your bath.....and the fitness work out!

For extra effect try and position your bath in front of an open fire....it will just be like the old days!

Waiting for a response from @snotty.

@rustbucket you are a master of your art. A few kettles of warm water, and things are beginning to move in the condensate pipe!
Soon I expect to hear the splish splash of tiny drips hitting the drain, and maybe even a bit of gurgling......
    fingers crossed.

  14. Can you need get the condensate drain lagged or piped into an inside drainpipe so it can't freeze?

Up here in the frozen North, currently -6C, this seems common enough to be plumbing 101, you'd expect plumbers to do this, but they don't.

Maybe its condensation due to cold air, the moisture being condensed round the igniter spark gap, causing a leakage current.. Preventing the voltage from rising enough to ionise the air (spark). adding heat around the boiler as well as thawing condensate drains may be drying it out too..

  17. You can’t avoid them. Had a text about an hour ago. Basically saying. Hello long time no speak. My boiler has packed up. Any chance you can come round and fix it tomorrow with an address which meant absolutely nothing to me. Just looked on my computer and the address isn’t even on my “new” system that I introduced about seven years ago.

I mean what’s the chances of getting an engineer that you’ve had no contact with for probably seven years to pop round the next day and fix your boiler in the middle of a freezing spell. So either they have been using someone else for the last seven years and he/she can’t go there or no one’s touched it for seven years.

  18. I had a fault code 227 today on a boiler where the tenants had just moved out - dramatically saying Lock out fault… argghhh no what?

My engineering skilz traced the apocalyptically sounding error to the pay as you go meter had no credit on and the gas was shut off.

I found a gas card thing in a cupboard and headed to the shop to buy some gas - the man condescendingly advises me that I cannot use a card to buy gas for a gas card - cash only, no refunds….

Anyway as I no longer carry wads of cash around or want to use his cash machine and pay 1.99 to get my own money to buy something from his crappy shop I bugger off.

turns out but randomly jabbing buttons on the meter some emergency credit can happen and
The heating goes on, the plaster can dry out.

    meanwhile some
