Any recommendations on paint for engine tin ware? heat resistant or normal rattle tin? Anything else I should know or consider?
Get it powdercoated. Unless you particularly want to strip it to bare metal and paint it yourself, powdercoating is a huge timesaver and is hard wearing.
depends what finish you want and how much work you want to put in. Did mine in satin black smooth-right. look fine but not long been done so can attest to how resilient it might be. Would love to have powder coated but didn't have time and also didn't want it to get "lost" which appears a common outcome. Finding that elusive bit of tin ware isn't easy! (so take it somewhere reputable and don't do it through the back door by a "mate")
I'm not sure powder coating is so great, water gets under if the edges get scraped like any paint, but the process of handing over a box of revolting crud and getting back a box of carefully wrapped shiny things is excellent.
Sorry, I dislike powder coat - it's worst to repair of scratches and it could crack below screws etc - IMHO. I used from POR 15 the Black Velvet heat resistent (650°) paint - since 24 years ago at my Karmann, and since 14 years ago at my bay window - and it's still perfect - and in case of scratches easy to repair. But the processing is more complex and careful to do - I have the space and a compressor for that. regards,
the old "Black Velvet" was gloss finish as you see in my photos and not as spray, because I have (had) a compressor to spray it. I see it at some European distributors - but not at the US website?!? Also at Walmart and Amazon out of stock... looks like it is not available anymore? May be to dangerous ingredients
