Engine keeps cutting out.

  1. Hi everyone, this is my first post and hoping someone might be able to help.
A couple of weeks ago the van started to lose power then be fine then cut out completely, we've had the breakdown company out a couple of times now and they seem to think it could be a blockage......just wondered what you guys would recommend to try first? I'm no mechanic but am trying to get up to speed with it so hopefully we can save ourselves a bit.

    Thanks in advance

  2. welcome
please post the engine type and carb type. if you dont know then a pic will help

  3. Have you tried a new fuel filter?

    Welcome to the late bay

  4. Thanks for the welcome :D
The recovery guy came, sprayed some easy start in it and said it was a fuel blockage, got half a mile up the road and did it again  , gonna get a fuel filter and see if that helps.

  5. Should the fuel hoses be well away from the manifold or is it ok if they are touching? Im sure I've read something about vapor lock and the hoses getting too hot.

  6. If its a type 1 engine then its nearly impossible to keep the pump to carb hose from being very close / just touching the top of the inlet manifold anyway. I assume the pipe that comes in on the left hand side of the bulkhead is steel where it passes over the inlet manifold going through the tinware. Rubber hose draped over that section might well give rise to vapour lock.

  7. Another possibility....are the fuel tank breathers in place...the two pipes, one from each side and meeting up over the top of the engine bay in place? A single pipe runs from a joining Tee and down into the intake box on the air filter. If that system is removed and blocked off it will also lead to fuel starvation...
