Engine foam seal

  1. my 76 has got about 12-15 inches of foam seal missing - from the door catch off to the left to just beyond the turn towrds the front of the van.

Question - is this a replace immediately issue, a 12 inches wont make any urgent difference issue or a dont worry about it issue.

If the first, do I need to replace the whole lot or does anyone have a spare 12-15 inches (ooh err!)

  2. I wouldn't worry about it: your engine's not going to explode. You might as well replace it (the whole lot) - helps to have very bendy arms, but easy enough.

If you buy from JK, make sure they're selling you the right one. They fib.

  3. Thanks Snotty - I had visions of going for a drive and the rear end being aflame through overheating. Now I know its not life threatening I'll just add it ot the list of things to doat some point.

  4. Depends on where the missing bit has gone, especially if it's been sucked into the fan...

You won't have optimum cooling with the foam seal damaged, so if all of the other cooling parts/oil condition aren't in tip top shape then yes, it could be overheating. Its a cheap enough part to replace so I don't know why you wouldn't?
    :)

  5. Shes just had a full service so the oil and bits are in decent nick and so am assuming that the fan is clear. Its seems to be easy enough to do so I'll move it up the list - thanks, I'll have a peruse round JKs or ebay and see what comes up

get one from anywhere but jk i bought one of their "home made" ones and it was cack, get a proper one, 10 min job max for £20 why wouldn't you put it at the top of your list?

  7. Here, are you talking about that bit of foam that goes round the lip (of the bit which rises to the left side) of the engine?

What exactly does it do, what's it for? And where can you buy a 'proper' one from?

  8. I agree with others - its a £20 - 15 minute job and in this case - a stitch in time

  9. Yep

  12. i need to replace mine, its still in place but got knackered by the bloke who fitted the leisure battery. Theres one on ebay at the minute for a tenner but its a JK one, previous posts advise against them. Coolair are £20.99 so I think Ill go for that one..........whats TLB discount code?

Its just a foam seal. Just check its for your engine type and it'll be fine.
