Well, my mechanic got back to me today and explained why busby's been smoking like a train. Part of a valve stem or guide or something has disintegrated and taken out piston 3 and bits went into piston 4 making marks on that one. He's going to look into either repairing this engine which includes doing the bottom half or getting another engine whichever is cheaper. Gutted! Good advice appreciated.
We won't do a top-end only rebuild and guarantee it. Especially if something has gone critically wrong like that you'd want to split the case and check bearings.
That's what my mechanic has said ginge. He has to do the bottom end bearings etc or it may not last long with new head. I'm thinking maybe its better to repair the engine I've got?
I Feel for you mine did this I bit the bullet and bought a new engine as wasn't sure if any other damage had been done to case or crank Hope you get it sorted EDITED TO REMOVE DOUBLE POST :-[

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will report back on what's happening next and see if I can get some pics to put up.
Well here's the news. I need 2 new heads, a piston and sleeve, bottom end bearings, plus another gearbox coz syncro has gone in third well unless I can get the bits for the box. Its going to be expensive but at least Busby will be good for another 130,000 miles although I've only had 1500 of those:-/
