Engine bay tidy-up

  1. To try and keep up with Birdy I decided to take my tools to the engine bay.

First to go was the original hardboard ceiling.

For nearly forty years it did well, the sound proofing above was in excellent shape.
I replaced the hardboard with an old metal version, and refitted the Firetec,.

And whilst I was there I tidied some of the wiring and installed two strips of LED lights to illuminate the bay, should I need to work on it at night.

  2. mate thats awesome! its looks pretty spotless in there now so I'm guessing thats job done?
My hardboard ceiling is also shagged.. . Where'd you find the replacement?

  4. What I did think was amazing, is that the sound proofing was still in it's original plastic sleeves, with VW labels..

None of the plastic sleeves had melted or shown any heat damage..

I would have thought this plastic bag material (Similar to clear plastic bags) would have melted..

  9. Im painting my engine bay white and fitting led strips to aid in servicing and repair at the road side
Im also toying with the idea of pulling a timing light apart and permenantly fitting it in the engine bay so i can check the timing at the flick of a switch

Liking the homing lights in the engine bay. Are they going to be on like your roof lights at night?? :)

    And don't blame me but........you missed a bit ;)

  14. K+ - looking good, inspiring me to sort mine out soon..

Led strips are quality (going to do my dash/dials this week). Got 5m from china for just over a tenner. There are RGB (choose colour) ones available too if you plan on making your bus a boudoir.

  15. Did a little more today, it was bugging me that the leisure battery and associated switches looked plop,
    [IMG]

so I built a housing cover

  16. Looking Good baggy ol' boy, Whats the leisure batt cover made out of?

  17. It's part of a small water tank. Plumbers use them for feed& expansion tanks for central heating,.

  18. Now you say that i can see it, Its a really good idea though. I shall store it away in the 'ideas to steal' file :)
