Whether it happens or not it won’t be by design, more by accident . They haven’t got the ability to think it all through.

  2. Of course they were always going to tax electric car owners, they still use the roads & put wear on the tarmac don’t they? Enough people own / use an electric car now so time for the government to go back to being greedy!

Without trying to appear thick and failing miserably, what is this BIK tax? I’m assuming it’s not a tax on bickies, but it’s it basic income something or other ?:)

Benefit in Kind tax. Like a company cat you can use when not at work.

Wondering if the tax will be retrospective or just for new electric cars ?

My friend has just bought an electric Mercedes and the free road tax was a key part of his decision.

Fingers crossed that historic vehicles form such a small part of road users, they’ll leave us alone.

  7. They already do Doug, MrsNTFC pays 2% which is fixed until April 2025. After that, by which time the number of EVs on the road will no doubt have shot up, who knows:thinking:

We’re going to have 3 disappointed people at work when their Teslas get delivered. They’re all convinced they’re free!

  9. Surely in the current climate (pardon the pun) people won't mind paying a contribution for electric or historic vehicles in some form, even if it's a token £50 a year? Historic vehicles save more than that every year by not needing an MOT test.

    Hahahahah.

Because EVs are heavy, and can accelerate like crazy they probably tear up the road surface worse than a small economical petrol car..

Slightly linked subject but diesel fuel is now on average 26p a litre more than petrol in my area. Remember the government push for us all to move onto diesel.
The new push is for renewable energy so in a few years when when we have all got solar panels and the like , guess what , i will be taxed, or some kind of extra cost added to it to pay monthly to the government

People have been prophesising the end of free historic tax since I bought my first bay over 25 years ago when it only worked for pre-1973 vehicles. I missed it by two day with my 2nd Jan Westy at the time! The only change in that time has been to extend it to a rolling 25 years.

  17. Yeah them pesky weirdos with vw campers they just keep them going… the plan was to make them use them till they broke or rusted out
by giving them tax and mot free status :D
When we put the salt down that’ll finish them
