Elham Valley Caravan Park

  1. is where we stayed last night. Only it isn't a caravan park, it was but is now an overgrown field next to what used to be a pub called the "Palm Tree Lodge". Located just off the A2 between the motorway and the village of Elham about 9miles form Folkestone.

Its now a private home where the owner allows tents on the old beer garden lawns and caravans and campers on the hard standing of the car park. There's enough room to get 4 vans single file along the edge of the car park with grass verges for the awnings.

There is a toilet and a shower and sink and this was clean and well maintained. Not much else nearby other than plenty of public footpaths headed into the surrounding countryside.

About 2 miles away is Elham which won Kent village of the year in 2011. There's a small store there and several pubs and a tea room - the pubs do a wide range of local Kent brews.

£15 for the night, only the sound of an occasional car but plenty of sheep and cows to wake you in the morning. If you have the van filled with provisions then this is okay for a one nighter.
