    Can I do this.
I want the mains to go to all appliances when we plug in, so... Connect mains plug to lesuire fuse box, with a switch in between. Is it that simple? [IMG]

How can I have what's coming off lesuire Battery switched to coming off mains when we plug in?

  5. Don't connect your van fuse box to the mains. This is not good.

What appliances have you got that have 230v AC and 12v DC on the same wires

If that drawing represents your understanding of electricity, get someone else to do it, someone who's qualified, or even your pet parrot or a small child.

You must keep your 240V AC separate from your 12V DC or you will die/van will go up in flames, but you can use a charger to bridge the two and keep the battery charged up.

240v AC - Mains in -> mains fuse board with earth trip and fuses - > mains charger (to battery) and 240V ac socket(s).

    12v DC - Battery -> 12v leisure fuse box -> 12v stuff.

    Take that as a “no”?

Almost as funny as one of my neighbours who thought he could change his master 12V on/off switch without disconnecting his batteries. 850 CCA x 4 batteries x 12V = a 40Kw short! There was smoke, there were flames, there was no longer any insulation and one cable sliced the corner off a battery to acid to the mixture when all his cable ties went up in fames too... and he didn't have a spanner to disconnect the batteries so it kinda dragged out for a while.

  11. You can buy devices that sense when you have hooked up and they switch the supply from your 12 volt-240 volt inverter to the incoming supply from the site automatically.

Yeah, but Day wants the opposite of an inverter, he wants to power the 12V stuff with a mains supply.

Powerpart p0116, its what was recommended to me and I run one in my t2 and my t25 ,

I've had it in the t25 for about 5 yrs now and works fine , charges the leisure battery then 12v from there, keep the 240v separate apart from plugging the above charger in

    None.

At present lesuire Battery powers all internal stuff, lights, charger sockets, radio. Mains hook up just gives power to a plug socket.

    Completely separate and all fused.

After having a good read from the excellent link twodogs gave, I think I'll leave it for now. Study more, understand more.

  16. Plug a charger into that socket and as soon as you connect to EHU, you’ll be topping up your battery

Battery charger/maintainer. See other threads about hassles with pure battery charger/trickle charger units ..
When you plug into 240v, it charges the battery with the understanding (maintainer feature required) that you will be drawing a potentially significant load from the 12 volt side.
Disconnect mains, battery charger turns off, now running off battery...

Go to 12voltplanet.co.uk and look at the offerings.

  18. @Day, if this is all new to you, 12v is one thing, playing with 240v is another.

My advice would be to use the search forum option at the top of the pages, stick your search criteria in for Leisure Battery (or whatever) and look for posts by @matty - he has put up some great posts over time and I used them all to learn all about this topic...

If you take @mikedjames advice above have a look at this page for starters https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/campervan-conversion-electrical-checklist.html

If you are not 100% sure what you are doing - don't try, as my dad used to say, electricity - cant see it, cant smell so don't touch it! Get someone in and you'll be safe.

Was in a similar boat to yourself so don't fret you'll get there.. I read a lot, worked out what I wanted to do and started simple, then kept adding on..(and re-starting) now have a full 240v/12v/solar solution where I can keep everything monitored and powered.. you'll nail it mate!

    --- update...
These are the two posts I read many times from @matty
