Electric Step

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Roxy46, Aug 22, 2012.

  1. Has anyone fitted an electric step to their late bay?? Just wondered how easy they are to fit and wire up! Elderly parents might appreciate the facility!!

  2. There's a good tip for transporting elderly parents in "Little Miss Sunshine" :)...

Do you have any in mind Roxy or just thinking aloud?

  4. The omni step is a nice bit of kit. Fitted one a while ago to a mates coachbuilt motorhome. They aren't that difficult to wire in. Not cheap but the kit came with a switch to open the step when the door was opened.
Just need to remember not to park too near to high curbs. The step doesn't like that.

They do a cheaper manual step that you push with your foot and it folds down. Push it again and it folds up again.

They do a bay ambulance step that opens automatically with the sliding door, they are common in OZ and SA, the importers have them quite often.

  6. Thanks peeps. Just thinking out loud at the moment but who knows, one day maybe. I guess the brackets just bolt to the underside through the floor so I wondered whether this was really strong enough - guess so if others have done it. If the manual versions just require a push of the foot to raise or lower them then that would certainly be a lot easier than bothering with wiring .................... and cheaper too - a bargain!! It would be really cool to have an automatic one tho ..... mmm. :- :-

    Any further comments/advice most welcome.

  7. I'll be making my own for my caravelle soon as getting fed up of having to lift my dog into the van as she's got arthritis. :(
Will post some piccies up to show it when i make it.

  8. Great!Look forward to seeing the piccies. Poor dog but know what you mean - ours had arthritis too and could hardly walk at the end. Real shame when it happens.

  9. Ours is a 12 year old collie who has never calmed down and still thinks she's a puppy. Daft as a brush but her joints can't keep up. :(
A step will probably help my mum with her dicky knees get in too.

  10. Kill two birds and Air ride the old girl .......

  11.
  12. Yea - like the idea of Air Ride but maybe the price for the better kit is just a tad (???) out of proportion to the value of the bus and they don't seem to do one for the late bay. Maybe just as well cos it saves me having to make a decision ???

  13. just like the buses when they stop @the bus stop to let the old dears on ,
