We used to live in Langley Green, Crawley in the 1980s.
Three redeeming features:

One: excellent train connections to London , Brighton and Havant ..

Two: the local bus fare was 50p to Gatwick Airport for flights to Spain..

Three: going sideways round roundabouts under the flight path at Gatwick after a rain shower..

 

Oh yes, didn’t you work at MEL near Salfords?

 

Would have been difficult as he was hung in 1949, but maybe he was like Tony Hart and kept coming back to life.
