Driving in windy conditions

I drove along the M27 a couple of months back and the bus would leap out half a lane when hit by the Force 10 crosswind crossing little bridges and there were gaps in the bushes on the verge of the road.
It was extremely stressful. I left the motorway at the next exit and zigzagged up the narrower A roads - the wind was the same but the road is narrower.

The steering always had a little play in it , and there was a slight tendency to go a bit left or right randomly when braking hard. Something about the same as having only one rear drum working when the front discs are OK.

Then I had the drag link replaced as a part of an MOT failure , and the steering lost its play and the leaping sideways has reduced to more of a slight swerve.

The bus was lowered 10 cm in the distant past and has new gas shocks at the front.

Its a pleasure to drive again.

  2. We seem to stay on road ok , good tyres all round, suspensions good, Sweet no worse than normal modern van in high wind really.
