See they're being trialled in Milton Keynes today, what actually is the point of them?
I'm out on the roads a lot and do see some terrible driving and think sometimes a computer could do better but not sure in reality if I'm keen to share the roads with them

You might as well take public transport, a car is for driving.

It's more likely to be the driven cars that cause problems. Can't wait for driverless cars tbh.

That'd put "My computers crashed" into a whole new league.

  5. Yes. Put yourself inside a small projectile that no one is in control of among other vehicles, some driven, some not. What could possibly go wrong?tuesday_wildchild

It'll only work if all cars are driver-less.

  7. Maybe driverless cars will actually bother to use their indicators at the roundabout outside Tesco in Blandford. We can but hope.

The long term aim is to sack every paid driver, or at best demote them to machine minders.

  12. Driving on the A13 every day, you get to see the most selfish driving imaginable. Driverless cars would be much better, but I don't see how they could be integrated with humans driving on the same roads.

  13. Surely a row of driverless cars is a train? Can't see the point, meself.

  14. I agree if you mix the two all hell will break loose. Motorways could be driverless only in that on the slip road the car takes over to the junction you need then you take over on the exit slip road.

Trains are restricted to tracks. We have a massive road infrastructure. Driverless electric cars make sense and the roads are already there. Win win

A mate of mine is involved with the development of this stuff.
He's adamant that it'll be seen as the norm well within 10 years.
I asked about how driverless would be integrated on our roads as they are. His response: "Seamlessly"

You could have more than one for the road . Side panel spew buckets an optional extra .
On a serious note , they will be a god send for when we get old and possibly have your licence revoked .
The future may turn out to be that car status and wealth may end up a thing of the past ....unless of coarse it has big ass battery's.

Personally, I can't wait until we have 40-tonners hurtling down the road with nobody at the wheel...
