  1. Tried to cure this once before it's a 1970 1500 beetle and it's leaking where the solid shaft bolts on to the side of the gear box. Not very good at explaining how I tried to repair it so here goes undone six bolts pulled the housing back as far as it would go ( about an inch) this is where I get shot down in flames cut gasket and put the join at the top believing that there's no pressure in the gearbox and it wouldn't leak because the join is at the top and sealed with oil resistance sealer . Question 1 is there a another way to do it without taking out the engine and gearbox question 2 have been told there is rubber gasket located inside the cone that I unbolted can anyone shed some light on this please and stop me and the garage stinking of gearbox oil . Going to give it another go this weekend. PS does anyone know of a decent mobile vw macanic in the Basingstoke area to get the bloody camper going cheers . Paul
