SORTED drive for automatic side step M530

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by rsbadura, May 7, 2023.

  1. Hello everyone,

I am looking for the driver at the sliding door for the "automatic step" M530 for T2 (not T3 - similar but not the same)
also as individual parts or whatever.

So far I'm missing the red marked parts -
at least important is the molded part of the drive on the sliding door.
(I would hate to convert it to a modern electric linear actuator)

Ummm that's going to be tricky .I have the ambulance step fitted to my bus and only very occasionally seen them come up for sale.Do what you are doing and saturate all the various VW sites with wanted ads .If you need any pics just say .

I would try a few used parts sellers FBI Swansea etc , as it bolted to the door there’s a possibility that a used door will still have one on

  4. Hello Milky,

yep - don't worry, is longer-term rather than a winter project.
I've found quite a few rare things that nobody just threw over my fence ;)
(complete NOS air conditioning, NOS Wild Westener stripes, NOS City Horn, NOS wooden dashboard kit, cruise control parts, manuals, etc...)

Thank you for the offer to spend pics...
if you have the original mud flaps for this, detail pictures of the bracket with size would be helpful.
Current repro bracket for the front mudflap look rather strange.
The mudflap is going to be a luxurious white one anyway as in the back :D

    regards,

Front and rear mudflap brackets can be bought off someone on this site (will try to remember who it is ) he made really nice stainless steel ones . Also what is number 9 in the picture ?

  7. #9 is the drive part inside the sliding door - a reinforcement plate to weld (but I can also make my own).
From VW there is a description with photos how to build in afterwards: see VW A21.2ff (to cklick forward use "nächste Seite" / next page)

More photos from mine when I've cleaned it up a bit more - already removed half a bucketful of smut and rust  but looks usable...

  12. I think I still have genuine front mudflap brackets and the actual genuine flaps. Or stainless copies

  13. Hello,
the green one is for the sliding door left side - the pin below the sliding door edge at the front.
(did first not noticed that is only one part - from both sides )

    So still searching....

First pictures online of my M530 side step project:

Looks to be mostly all there ! So the part you are after is handed ? Maybe have a look on the VWSamba site that has a lot of adverts from America or as Davidoff made a very good point try the parts importers such and FBi, type 2 detective etc etc .

  16. Thanx, but this is T3.
You can identfy this by the underfloor mounting points and the flat driver plate (compare it to my example image above) at the sliding door.

    I know it’s T3 but I bet the parts are very similar/adaptable

  18. That's interesting as I was sold mine as a T2 one but it might be a T3. It's packed up in the garage so I'll have to have a look but as far as I remember it was complete bar possibly the mudflap.
