Door mirrors. Why are they making the wrong?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by earlylatebay, Apr 19, 2015.

  1. Does anyone know if there is a reason why all the "new" repro door mirrors have a threaded section that is too short for original doors?

I have had to source some threaded sections from old door mirrors just to get one to fit. Also in many of the ads for new ones it talks about the tension for the mirror being factory set. Is there a torque setting for the spring in the mirror pillar?

I expect there's a glut of short thread mirrors kicking about with suppliers, that they want to offload to customers before getting some decent ones into the market.

The 'tension' is mentioned to remove responsibility from the manufacturer/retailer - that the mirror you are about to buy is made of poor qualiy monkey metal and will break at the first sight of a spanner/socket being used to increase it's tension, and thus performing the simple role you thought a door mirror might be capable of.
