Door fit

  1. Hi All

i've got the gaps on my front cab doors adjusted quite close to what they should be now but i've noticed when i open the door and as its just about to close theres a certain amount of sag in it? as it shuts it rides up on the striker pin and the gap looks correct, is this down to wear on the hinge pins or is a certain amount normal? it opens and shuts well enough. cheers

  2. Zed is probably a good person to answer this but I dont think he's been on here for a while.

Have you tried adjusting with out any of the latch mechanisms attached??, if you've got the latch still on the door then as it hits it (if not adjusted) it will probably throw the door out a bit - either lining it up correctly or throwing it out but that would be due to the latches and not how the door hangs. with out any of the catches on you should be able to adjust the door "true'r" on its own - just seeing how it hangs on the hinges - I dont think I've explained that very well :-[

I fitted a new door on mine and seemed to have the same problem, I made a shim to fit under the bottom hinge and it all seemed alright.

When I took it off next time, then re fitted it (and forgot the shim) it all lined up ???

possible causes could be worn hinge pins, the work you did on the A post might have changed things slightly or it may just need further fiddling with the adjustment.....my money is on the adjustment :)

Is it the original door or a replacement? if its the original door and it sat fine before the resto then its probably un likely to be wear in the hinge pins ....I could be wrong :-[

sorry if that hasnt helped much ;D hopefully some one who knows what they are talking about will be able to give you better advice :D

  3. Thanks Diddyman, yes it does help cheers, every time i put the door on and off it seems to change a little i guess it will be down to a final fiddle and shim once its painted as theres nowt i can do about the hinge positions now, it looks fine when closed so i must be able to get it correct! thanks again.
