So I’m changing the worn out out donuts on the rear torsion beam

Question
To talcum powder or leave clean ?

 

The Bentley manual calls for talcum powder so I went for that on both my aircooleds and they've been fine.
Just don't grease them!

 

A good clean, then a light dusting with talc. Choice of fragrance is yours

With fresh donuts, you might need a couple of longer bolts to initially pull the spring plate covers on.

 

Indeed. If you grease them, they'll squeak like mad and wear out.

 

And if you get the ones with hundreds and thousands on, brush them off first, or they grate for weeks.

 

Marks & Spencer do a nice Sea Salt and Amber talc for all your classic car needs.

 

You may jest, but I did mine with an old tin of Hai Karate I found at the back of a cupboard.

 

I use Waitrose Graphite and Jojoba. Super!

The technical data sheet states that "Royal Extract Dusting Silk is talc-free and naturally absorbent." so it might not be performant. It does however come in a fabulous jar so must be worth a punt.

 

It does state "Not suitable for commercial vehicle suspension" in the description.

 

At that price they are extracting something…

 

Have you checked the allergy section...it might not be suitable for putting round your donuts.

 

Fortnums would never dream of poisoning their customers! Goodness me.

Speaking of nuts, a friend of mine gives his a daily dusting of spearmint talc.

I suspect one errant shake could give him a nasty shock.
