  3. We used to have a rescue Staff , she was lovely with people, but unpredictable with other dogs , tried all sorts to "cure" even the dog behaviourist gave up , kept her on the lead from then on . Sounds as though what needs to be done with the staff that attacked your dog , I hope Lionel is ok

  5. feel your pain.........................hope the little guy gets better soon.............................he does look like he's trouble though;)

a few LBayers here have met my dogs which are soft as hell, just before a few of us were meeting up at a beer festival the eldest got attacked by a American pit bull which tried ripping its back leg off. bit of a mess. the pit bull got a bit of a kicking to get it off and the 2 t***s that had it where next but they did one.

cost over £1000 for a repair job and missed a whole day of the beer festival(the vet told us to go as it wouldn't make it any worse)
she's ok now apart from she doesn't like other dog and her insurance only covers the other 3 legs if she gets arthritis....

  6. He looks so sweet. Hope he recovers. Were the people local? They need a lesson in how to behave with their dog...and the vet bill to pay to focus their minds.

I have a Sharpei that doesn't like other dogs, consequently is never off her lead in public.

The amount of people who let their 'friendly' dog off their leads who then run up to or around her is annoying, even when warned she'll go for them, stating their dog is fine as I plainly struggle with mine who is also fine when left alone by their effin dog.

Collies herd, terriers dig, unsurprisingly a Chinese fighting dog doesn't like other dogs....in my case after repeatedly being attacked by 'friendly' boxers, labs and a westy when she was a pup, all of which were off their leads and 'have never fine they before'.

Some of us own dogs that will go for other dogs, and are careful as a consequence, other dog owners can be amazingly pig ignorant.

None of which is relevant to your little lad, I hope he's getting better and I'm really getting to the point where all dogs should be on leads in public spaces that have a lot of people in them.

  12. Totally agree, it's so annoying when you get people saying their dog is friendly when your dog on the lead is clearly not , even when you have warned them

  16. Ive not owned a dog for about 5 years now, but when I did, I never really experienced any nasty moments with other dogs.

But, I'm off to look at a puppy this weekend, and this thread has scared me a little, never really knew this type of incident was so common. You really can't let your guard down for a moment when other dogs are about...

    Get Well Soon Lionel :)

  17. Staffies are not a dangerous breed, they make excellent pets and love children (though couldn't eat a whole one, (sorry, couldn't resist))
Any dog has the potential to be dangerous, its down training, the owner & its past experiences.
But some of them are just little buggers.

  18. Sorry to hear this, I suspect it happens quite a lot.

Our neighbours 3 doors away have a Staffie. Its aggressively charged our dog (Welsh Springer) in the past then two weeks ago did the same but much more aggressive this time and I thought it had bit our dog. What was worse I was still on my drive and my dog was on a lead, I was shocked at how quick it all happened. The neighbours gave a reluctant sorry and blamed my dog "as being the only dog theirs is aggressive towards" as if that makes it OK, the daughter told me she was an animal behaviourist and spoke down to me. They wouldn't give me an undertaking to control their dog so I reported them to both the police and local authority dog warden. At least that way it is formally recorded and I am led to believe they will get a visit from the dog warden.

  19. When I was little, say in the late 70's early 80's all the reports of dog mauling's were seemingly from Alsatians.
Whenever you saw an idiot thicko with a dog it would always be an Alsatian. So no surprises that there were lots of nasty Alsatians about.
Nowadays fashion has changed, whenever you see an idiot thicko with a dog its a bull terrier type, so no surprises that there are lots of nasty bull type dogs about.

Top tip wait for the rise of the viscous labpugdoodlehougha !!!!

  20. as a dog owner I think ALL dogs should be muzzled in public...they are only a few generations from wolves...
