Well we've decided to take the plunge and expand our family by 5 - next week we are taking delivery of 5 ex-battery hens (that doesn't mean they are now solar powered)!!! ;D
They're doing great, thank you for asking. Sadly, one of them died a while back but the other four are in great shape - one of them still has a bald bum, but apart from that, there is no evidence that they were once battery chickens. They still lay between two and four eggs a day between them, despite the cold and dark nights. If we don't count the destruction of my lawn, veg patch and the poo all over the patio - it's all good. (only joking)(that is to say that, all these things did happen - but I'm not bitter ). I would certainly recommend ex-batts, they are ever so friendly and real good fun - it's hard to get the blues with chickens around!!! Oh, and here they are destroying my cauliflowers -
