Distributor?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lardy, Sep 10, 2012.

  1. No spark, I have put my engine in which is originally from a T25, so the distributor hasnt been touched as I didnt want to upset the timing. Problem is its electronic ignition, the lead with three wires comes off of the side where the condenser is on my other distributor. I've connected the three wires up in the hope that it would work but I'm getting no spark, so not firing? The three wires are usually part of a small loom which goes to a plug on the T25 engine. Am I better off trying to fit the points and condenser to this unit already installed? I've had a look at replacing the distributor but there's a bolt that is difficult to get to holding the clamp. Sorry to be so vague, long and short is I've got no spark?

do you have the control unit

I don't know about the T25 ignition, but I know from experience you can destroy a pertronix by wiring it up the wrong way. If you put the points in and static time it, it will start. Can you put points in one of those distributors?

  5. Hi, I changed the distributor today as I haven't it the control unit. Spoke to Zed earlier and after some advice I manage to get just under 12 volts through the coil to earth, checking the timing. Problem is the distributor's vacuum unit is near the front of the engine and not over the clamp bolt, strange. Will I have to take the distributor out and turn it round? I put all of it back together again and still won't fire up :-
So now I don't know! But what I do know is that Zed will be getting a customer late this week or early next week hint hint fella, probably a whole day and seeing as you'll have to drive down I might just buy you lunch as well lol!! She's gotta be fired up and moving under her own steam this month!! Shes soooooo close!! Cheers guys.

  6. Take a lead and plug off ,put the plug on the engine [to earth it] ,then turn ignition on ,and turn main pully ,when the dizzy passes the plug lead the plug should spark..

once you have a spark you can fiddle which way the dizzy is...

  7. Cheers, done this on plug 4, it sparked ok. But when I tried to turn her over she wouldn't fire up. Mmnnnn thinking maybe I should be worried. I did what Zed said with the static timing, so many marks on my flywheel it's untrue so had to extract a plug then check for piston in plug chamber to find tdc. Anyway thought I'd found it when the multimeter read 12V bolt it only showed for a split second, wasn't holding the voltage on open points. I don't know what else to do apart from call a guru lol!
Maybe I need to check all four plugs.....just a thought????

  8. If one plug sparked ok, your on a winner... ;D

Put you finger on the number four piston and turn the main pully till the piston is at the top ,then make sure the rotor arm is pointing to that lead....if neccassary do it with all four....

    then turn her over .....

if still no joy ,quickly take a plug out ,if the plug is dry the petrol is not gettting through ....

if the plug is wet ,chuck the van over a cliff.. ;D
