Difficult gears

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the 3 crispies, Mar 30, 2015.

  1. Struggling to find 1st sometimes and 2nd most of the time, going to replace gear selector plate as hit reverse sometimes all other gears are reasonable. Are there any adjustments underneath or particular bushes that require replacing or is it a case of replace all apart from rear gearbox couplings (engine fitted). :chewie:

  2. No adjustments underneath. Change the rear coupler (or at least the rubbers) and the front bush.

  3. Make sure the selector plate is rigged correctly, it should be hard over to the left.
Then make sure you can select 2nd fully.

You can change the rear coupler with the gearbox in - if you take it apart , undoing the horizontal screw and the bolt clamping it to the gearbox shaft, and pull the pieces off it will come off and the new one will go on the same way.
Make sure that the little screw in the gearbox coupler is tight and that it is centred in the dimple on the gearbox selector shaft . I did mine up but not in the middle of the dimple and it decided to stick in reverse on the grass at Volksworld 2014.
A new selector plate may be worth it, but adjusting the existing plate is also worth a try.
