Seen some companies offering a double bed addition to a devon pop top roof, just looks like two bits of angle and some boards to me and a bit of bed foam and would it really be suitable for a 6ft bloke like myself.. im doubtful but curious as i quite like the idea of the extra bed. Would be pretty nippy if you ask me.. anyone done i/had it done?
@Joyceethebluedevon did one......http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/converting-our-devon-bunks-into-a-bed.25959/
seen these on ebay...essentially, what you've suggested. A very useful addition if you need a extra bed for kids, or storage space when camped up. My only reservation with the design is the height of the boards when fitted..I'm pretty sure it wouldn't allow you to close the roof fully with the boards in situ...no great shakes as you can remove them, along with the cushions, and stash them....and that's the issue...if the side support brackets were an inch or two lower, you'd be able to close the roof but this then puts extra strain on the sides of the roof aperture. If you look at @Joyceethebluedevon's thread, you'll notice the side supports have been dropped
Not sure how this design differs from the Aussie ones but there's no messing about removing boards etc with mine.
I'm only going off my late devon roof conversion....different roof designs/brackets may allow the boards/bedding to remain in place with the roof down.
I think @daisey1973 has angle brackets and boards to go across his bus in the poptop. Certainly saves you from destroying our hairstyle on bits of gas pipe.
I've had two adults sleep up top in a bed like that. Its fine. Well as long as the bed boards aren't made out of hardboard !
RM92 i have a prototype bay 4/1971 pop top roof with bed for my granddaughters, is very good for them to sleep
